NDC to review growth

New Delhi, June 26: The two-day meeting of the National Development Council (NDC) beginning tomorrow would review the state of economy and decide on taking corrective steps to bring about an 8 per cent growth in the Eleventh Five-Year Plan. ?We are looking forward to hearing from the chief ministers whether they agree with our assessment of the corrective steps as suggested in the mid-term appraisal of the Tenth Plan,? Planning Commission deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia said.

Tata Motors

New Delhi, June 26: Tata Motors will invest up to Rs 6,000 crore by 2008-09 in product development and capital expenditure. ?The funds raised from the international offerings have been partly utilised to refinance the acquisition of Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle Co and ongoing product development and capital programmes,? the company said.

Infotech act

New Delhi, June 26: A government panel will submit its report in mid-July for an in-depth review of the IT act, ushering in suitable data protection legislation. The panel was set up for an in-depth review of issues relating to the Information Technology Act, 2000 in January this year to consider suitable legislation for data protection.

Auro Pharma

Mumbai, June 26: Aurobindo Pharma Ltd has received a tentative approval from the USFDA for Efavirenz tablets, an anti-retro viral drug used to treat HIV-1 infection.

Bank strike

Vijayawada, June 26: Bank employees will go on a strike if the government goes ahead with its plan to privatise banks and allow 74 per cent FDI in them, the All India Bank Employees Association said.

Coal demand

Calcutta, June 26: Coal India Ltd will invest over Rs 20,000 crore in new projects to meet the growing demand for coal, which is projected at 670 million tonnes by 2011-12. It is also working overtime to bridge a projected shortfall of 38 million tonnes in 2006-07.

Blaupunkt

New Delhi, June 26: Blaupunkt plans to set up 20 exclusive brand shops in the next one year at Delhi, Chennai and Bangalore. The company, a subsidiary of German auto component major Bosch, currently has a market share of over 20 per cent in car audio.
