Das, Alam in title-clash

Top seed Arpit Sharma lost 6-7, 5-7 to fourth seed Baibhav Das in the under-18 semi-final of the junior age-group tennis meet at the Ordnance Club on Friday. In the other semi-final, second seed Farid Alam beat Arup Mullick 6-4, 6-3. The under-14 boys final pits Prem Singh against Anant Kanoria.

In the lone girls under-18 semi-final top seed Richa Valechha overcame Snigdha Kapoor 6-1, 6-1. The other semi-final and the final will be played on Saturday.

BTA meet

Rajat Maheshwari of Shambazar defeated tenth seed Vinayak Chatterjee 5-1 in the under-12 category to reach the quarter finals of the Bengal Tennis Association floodlit meet. Others to reach the quarters were top seed Subhoraj Ghosh of Gymkhana, 13th seeded Harsh Gurnani from DKS and Arkajit Basak, the fifth seed from DKS.

In the boys Under-10 section, third seed Yuvraj Bains lost to unheralded Ashraf Aliof JMTA 5-2. Nishat Eqbal of Gymkhana ousted seventh seed Shuvam Roy 5-4 (7-2).
