Jamshedpur, June 23: Students are busy warming up for the great run ? Olympic Run.
Come June 26 and over 2000 students from various city-based constituent colleges of Ranchi University will participate in the Olympic Run which will conclude at Gopal Maidan.
The run aims to create awareness for the 34th National Games to be hosted by Jharkhand in 2007.
A similar rally will be organised on the same day in all districts across the state. The modalities of the rally was finalised at a meeting in Ranchi today.
All principals of constituent college of Ranchi University took part in the meeting which was presided over by the vice-chancellor S.S. Kushwaha.
The colleges here have already started preparation to make the rally a successful one.
Sources said 500 students each from Jamshedpur Co-operative College and Jamshedpur Women?s College will take part in the rally.
Jamshedpur Workers College, Abdul Bari Memorial College, Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial (LBSM) College and Graduate School College for Women will send about 250 students for the run.
?The run has been christened ?Olympic Run? as the week starting from June 23 is celebrated as ?Olympic Week? across the globe. Starting this year, we have decided to organise Olympic Run till the National Games in 2007,? Kushwaha said.
?The idea is to create awareness about the games,? he added.
Principal of Jamshedpur Workers College, S.S. Razi said the students of all colleges here will assemble at their respective college campuses at 7.30 am and will then proceed for Gopal Maidan holding banners.
They will be led by the principals. The students will be wearing T-shirt given by the university. The students contingent will traverse through various thoroughfares of the city before meeting at the Gopal Maidan.
University sources said colleges located in the rural areas have also been asked to take out similar rallies and create awareness about the National Games.
