Frog marriage to induce rains

Jorhat, June 14: Reeling under the impact of sweltering heat, whose effect has been compounded by the long hours of powercuts, residents in Upper Assam organised a marriage of frogs last evening in the hope that it would open up the skies and bring the monsoon.

?We strongly believe that performing a frog marriage will bring rains. Only a heavy shower will bring the temperature down,? said Parag Bora, one of the organisers of the ?wedding? at Cheunigaon here.

The two frogs were caught and kept in two separate houses in the locality.

Last evening a marriage ceremony was performed following Hindu rituals.

The bride and the groom were ?cleaned up? and the ceremonial fire was lit at the bride?s house where the pandit chanted the slokas to consolidate the marriage.
