Mittal team rounds up visit

Ranchi, June 10: The team from Mittal Steel Company completed its five-day long visit to the state today. The company has asked for a month?s time for a feedback on the scope of opportunities it perceives in the state.

The company officials held an hour-long meeting with the top bureaucrats of the state at the secretariat today. The bureaucrats included chief secretary P.P. Sharma and the industries secretary Santosh Sathpati.

In the meeting, the company identified a railway link to Paradeep port in Orissa and the availability of coking coal as two issues that the state government should immediately attend to.

Further, the company representatives have also demanded detailed information on the tax that the state will impose on the product manufactured by the company here.

The company officials have been told that the demand for coking coal can be met from the virgin coal mines in Dhori in Hazaribagh.

Besides, the state will take up all possible measures for setting up a railway line between Manoharpur, in Chaibasa, and Paradeep.

The company will now submit a detailed technical report to its headquarters in London. Members of the tax review committee are, however, staying back for a few more days to hold a detailed discussion on the tax structure.

The state government has gone out of the way to attract the steel major to the state. The state government is now keeping its fingers crossed for the decision of the company, more so as sources maintain that the company is in a position to invest a large amount.
