Forest officers suspended
The Assam forest department has suspended Nagaon wildlife divisional forest officer Sanjib Bora and Pobitora range officer Ramen Das on Thursday in connection with the killing of two rhinos in the Pobitora sanctuary by miscreants on June 5.
fficials said the two rhinos were killed by the miscreants on World Environment Day.
Border tension
Tension mounted on the Assam-Mizoram border in Hailakandi district over the destruction of a forest waiting shed by the Young Mizo Association (YMA) members.
Plea for GM
The Kokrajhar District Industries and Commerce Centre has been operating without a general manager since February 2001. A memorandum was submitted by some entrepreneurs of the region demanding recruitment of a general manager.
Tea unrest
Assistant labour commissioner Dhiren Goswami has sought Dispur?s intervention in resolving the ongoing conflict between the tea garden managements and the Asom Chah Mazdoor Sangha units. The labour unions of six gardens have been demanding revival of the old system of weekly payments.
Textile scheme
The ministry of textiles has urged all northeastern states to submit schemes for implementation of projects to promote their textile products outside the states.

Conman held
Police arrested Tapan Kakoty from New Guwahati in Assam on Wednesday on charges of duping jobseekers. The accused has been remanded in judicial custody.
