Tinsukia side in semi-final

Dibrugarh, June 9: Tinsukia Railways edged past a spirited Tengakhat Sports Association (TSA) 4-2 in the tie-breaker to enter the semifinal of the 13th Narayanmal Garodia Invitational Gold Cup tournament organised by Milan Jyoti Sangha, Dibrugarh.

In the first quarter final match played at Chowkidingee playground here today, both teams fought well. But poor finishing by the players and their lack of co-ordination between the strikers of both the sides resulted in a goalless draw at the end of regulation time.

Tinsukia Railways particularly floundered, losing several easy chances due to their lack of ability to follow through with the initiatives. It was their lucky day today that won them the match when Biju Gogoi, Ganesh Saha, Parag Chamua and Ratna Phukon got it right in the penalty shoot out while Bhaskar Gogoi missed out.

For TSA, Debojit Borgohain and Jasmine Sonowal and converted their shots into goals in the tie-breaker. However, their efforts were nullified when Jadu Hazarika and Raju Hazarika shot wide of the nets.

Jayanta Borsakia, who officiated in today?s match, showed TSA?s Mahendra Sonowal a yellow card for rough play. Borsakia was assisted by Rajib Saikia and Robin Konwar on the lines, while Prasanta Bhuyan was the fourth official. Tomorrow, holders Oil India Limited will begin their campaign in the meet when they take on Dibrugarh Railways in the second quarter-final.
