London, June 5 (PTI): Spanish actor Penelope Cruz, once turned down from adopting a child in her home country for being too young and single, has again expressed her desire to adopt a child, preferably from India.

“I love babies. I’ve been to India a few times and seen a level of misery I’d only seen on the news. Adopting a child is something I really want to do in my life,” the 31-year-old actor (in picture above) said.

Earlier this year, the actor had said she would like to adopt one of India’s homeless children after having worked with the missionaries in Calcutta four years ago, celebrity portal femalefirst has reported.

Cruz, who is currently dating Hollywood heartthrob Matthew McConaughey said she is “desperate” for lots of children and can’t bear to see youngsters without parents.

“I do know I want lots of children. Everyday I think about adopting a baby. Ten years ago I tried to adopt, but I was rejected for being too young and unmarried.”

The Vanilla Sky beauty’s previous attempts to adopt a child were rejected because she was single when she applied in her native Spain in 1995.
