Guwahati, June 2: Bhaskar Vidyapith emerged as the under-17 champions in the Guwahati (metro) zonal inter-school football tournament here today.
They blanked Srimanta Sankardev Academy 3-0 to qualify for the next level of the tournament ? the inter-zonal phase, to be organised by the district sports office with winners from the 13 zones in the district.
Vidyapith?s Jarif Ali drew first blood. In the 17th minute, he nudged home off a goal-mouth tussle. Sankardev Academy failed to equalise and the scoreboard read 1-0 in Vidyapith?s favour when the whistle blew for the breather.
In the 81st minute, Anand Chetri pumped in the second goal to put Vidyapith firmly in the lead. There was more humiliation in store for the Academy boys, who conceded a third goal to Vidyapith?s Chandan Rabha in the dying moments of the match.
Earlier this morning, Bhaskar Vidyapith entered the final riding piggyback on a solitary goal by Jarif Ali to beat Nichols High School in the semi-final.
In the under-14 category, Nichols High School won the final beating Dakshin Beltola High School 2-0. Genesh Rony Sona and Rajib Boro were the scored the two goals.
The winners will play in the district-level tournament to qualify for the under-14 and under-17 inter-district tournaments for the Pilik Choudhury trophy and the Deokon Trophy respectively.
