St Stephen’s College, Delhi

Application forms: Have been available at the college office from May 16. The forms can also be collected by post or filled up online by logging on to the college website. The last date for the submission of forms is June 16.

Admission procedure: Based on their board exam results, candidates are selected to appear for an interview. The interviews, to be conducted on June 21, are clubbed with secondary and higher secondary results and an overall decision taken. They also look at your extra-curricular achievements.

Cut-off marks (last year’s): English ' 75% in Elective English or 85% in Core English; history ' Science 89% in best of five subjects (BFS), Commerce 92% BFS; Humanities 81% BFS; economics ' you need at least 80% in math. If you’re from the Commerce stream, you need 94% BFS and from Science, 93% BFS.

Presidency College, Calcutta

Admission procedure: A preliminary screening based on previous academic record, followed by an admission test for all honours subjects. Equal weightage given to performance in the admission test and in the last public exam.

Cut-off marks (last year’s): English ' 65%, political science, sociology ' 60%; Bengali ' 50%, Hindi, history, philosophy ' 50%.

Best known for: English, political science, history.

 

St Xavier’s College, Calcutta

Application forms: Available online. There are no printed forms. Admission procedure: Log on to the college website, fill in the application form on the website itself and submit it online. There will be no admission tests this year, barring in mass comm. and videography.

Cut-off marks (current): English, political science and sociology ' 55% (W.B.) and 70% for other boards.

Best known for: English, political science, sociology.

St Xavier’s College, Mumbai

Application forms: Will be available from the day the H.S. results of the Maharashtra state board are announced. They should be submitted to the college office within two days from that date.

Admission procedure: Students passing the H.S. or any other examinations conducted by boards/universities outside Maharashtra must first obtain and submit a provisional eligibility certificate from the Registrar, University of Mumbai, Eligibility Section, Vidyanagari, Santa Cruz (E), Mumbai 400 098.

Cut-off marks (last year’s): 80% for most arts subjects.

Best known for: Economics, psychology, English.

Admission procedure: Admission tests are taken for English and journalism. For all other subjects, admission is entirely on the basis of your board results. Tentative date for first cut-off list: June 25.

Cut-off marks (last year’s): English ' 82%; history ' 84%; journalism ' 75%; political science ' 86.75%; sociology ' 88.75%.

Jadavpur University, Calcutta

Application forms: Will be given from the day after the West Bengal H.S. results are out. Forms may be also obtained by post on sending a crossed demand draft for the requisite amount drawn in favour of ‘Jadavpur University’ and accompanied by a self-addressed stamped (Rs 4) envelope (size: 2.5 cm x 10 cm), and sent to the Senior Superintendent, Information Office, Jadavpur University, Calcutta 700 032.

Admission procedure: It depends on your performance in the secondary and higher secondary exams. A merit list is prepared for each subject on the basis of which candidates will be called for interview. There is an admission test for those who wish to study English.

Cut-off marks (current): English ' 60%; comparative literature ' 55%; history and political science ' 55%; philosophy ' 50%; economics ' 60%; Sanskrit ' 50% with Sanskrit as a subject in the H.S./Madhyamik or equivalent examinations.

Best known for: English, economics, political science, comparative literature.

 

Hindu College, New Delhi

Admission procedure: Your marks in the higher secondary exams are taken into account for all courses except English, where you have to sit for an admission test. Tentative date for first cut-off list: June 25.
