Sporting Union have it easy

Sporting Union beat DKS by 72 runs in an A.N. Ghosh Trophy match on Friday. After piling up 242 for six in 25 overs, Sporting Union restricted DKS to 170 for two.

BRIEF SCORES

Sporting Union 242/6 incl. 33 penalty runs in 25 ovs (Debopam Sarkar 63). DKS 170/2 in 27 ovs (Soham Ghosh 79, Prasenjit Das 49). Sporting Union won by 72 runs.

Nicobari XI vs Bengal U-21

A SAI Nicobari team, consisting of 18 boys who lost their homes and family to the December 26 tsunami, arrived in Calcutta on Friday on the first leg of their countrywide tour which has been organised at the behest of the Union ministry for sports and youth affairs to revive their morale and spirit. The first exhibition match, against a Bengal U-21 side, will be held at the Mohun Bagan ground on Saturday and will be followed by games in Jamshedpur, Delhi, Mumbai, Goa, Bangalore and Chennai.

U-19 NFL

East Bengal drew goalless with Mahindra United in an under-19 National Football League (NFL) match at Barasat Stadium. According to information received here, the local side was reduced to 10 men when Abhishek Aich was marched off in the 83rd minute. East Bengal had won their first match against SBT.

Elliott Shield

Haringhata Mahavidyalaya beat Burdwan Raj College 2-1 on Friday to make the quarter finals of the Duckback Elliot Challenge Shield. Raju Dey netted both for the winners, Sheikh Amjad pulled one back for the Burdwan team.

State chess

The state women's, junior and sub-junior championships will be held from Tuesday through May 29 at Shri Siksha Sadan School, Shalimar (Howrah). This was announced by the West Bengal Chess Association (WBCA) at a press conference Friday.

Snooker

A tournament involving SAI-BSFI and YMCA will be held at the billiards hall of SAI, Eastern Centre, on Sunday. Top state players Brijesh Damani, Subrat Das, Vikrant Gupta, Ankit Kariwal and Manish Jain will take part in the one-day meet.
