The accused was arrested in Noida on Friday after an identikit the victim helped the police draw up matched his photographs in a crime dossier.

Metropolitan magistrate Ila Rawat remanded Katiyar in police custody till May 27. The police will now begin a formal interrogation.

“The victim has directly identified the accused. This is an important piece of evidence and we have asked for 10 days’ police custody to begin custodial interrogation,” said deputy commissioner of police Depender Pathak.

Immediately after the gangrape, Delhi police had claimed they would arrest all the accused. Till now, they have nabbed only Katiyar.

Pathak admitted that the police are yet to recover the car used in the incident as well as the weapon used to threaten the girl. “A rod was used to threaten the girl; we have yet to recover it. Till now, the accused has been very deceptive and evasive,” the DCP said.
