Beijing: India trounced Wales 4-1 in their opening match of the Sudirman Cup world team badminton championships here on Tuesday.
Anup Sridhar defeated Paul Le Tocq 15-4, 15-4 in the first singles before Trupti Murgunde doubled the lead with a 11-9, 11-0 win over H. Johnson.
V. Diju and Jwala Gutta then combined in the mixed doubles to defeat Tocq and Sullivan 15-5, 15-7.
M. Hughes and M. Lewis gave Wales something to cheer about when they defeated Sanave Thomas and Rupesh Kumar 15-5, 4-15, 15-9 in 56 minutes.
In the final match, the womens doubles, Gutta and Shruti Kurian beat Johnson and Ashworth 15-6, 15-2 in 25 minutes.
India coach Hadi Sugiyanto said he was happy with the performance of the team and looked forward to Wednesdays match against the United States.
?All the team members are fully fit and confident. We have a good chance to win the next match as well,? he said.
In other matches, champions South Korea and Denmark came through contrasting tests to win their opening matches.
While Korea beat Thailand 4-1, the Danes were inspired by their powerful men, and a small but boisterous group of fans, in their 3-2 win over England. Malaysia defeated Group 2 rivals Taiwan 4-1. (PTI)
