Sacred Heart tops bio-quiz

Jamshedpur, April 29: Did you know that hippopotamus is the only animal that secretes red-colour sweat, or ethylene gas is used for artificial ripening of fruits or the term 'wildlife' was coined by biologist William Temple Hornaday'

Students got to know many interesting facts like these at Neuron 2005, an inter-school biology quiz contest, organised by Bio Club of Loyola School.

The three-hour quiz, conducted by the students of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital, saw students rack their brains for the right answers. More than 60 students from 19 schools participated in the contest.

Sacred Heart Convent School emerged champions. The Sacred Heart Convent team were neck and neck with Jamshedpur Public School till the last rapid fire round. Host Loyola School finished third.

The quiz started with a preliminary round in which eight teams ' Loyola School, Sacred Heart Convent, Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vig English School, Jamshedpur Public School, Dayanand Public School, Gulmohar High School and Kerala Public School, Mango ' qualified for the semi-finals.

Questions ranged from human body to environment, wildlife to human psychology. Principal of Loyola School Augustine Vattamattam gave away the prizes.
