New Delhi, April 25: The Supreme Court today said the rehabilitation money for the victims of the Bhopal gas tragedy should be distributed within another year, reports our legal correspondent.
A division bench of Chief Justice R.C. Lahoti and Justice B.N. Srikrishna allowed time till April 30, 2006, to the welfare commission which has disbursed Rs 224 crore of the Rs 1,503 crore.
The welfare panel said the disbursement of money ?ran into difficulties, like lack of adequate number of judges for disbursement of the amounts as well as the complex process of establishing the identity of the claimants?. It said it was unable to meet the deadline of April 30, 2005.
