Khichudi poison

Calcutta, April 25: About 350 people took ill this morning after having khichudi at a religious function organised by a local club.

The incident took place at Burul in South 24-Parganas, 40 km from here. The district?s chief medical officer visited the hospitals where the villagers had been rushed. Medical camps were set up. Tension ran high in the area and police pickets were posted to prevent violence.

Maoist held

Midnapore: West Midnapore police held Sanjoy Bose, 35, a suspected CPI(Maoist) activist on Saturday from Khardah in North 24-Parganas. The police said Sanjoy took part in secret meetings in West Midnapore?s Belpahari.

Khondakar

Chinsurah: The body of former Trinamul Congress MP from Serampore Akbar Ali Khondakar, who died in a Delhi hospital, was brought to the city on Monday. Mamata Banerjee accompanied the body to Khondakar?s house at Sheoraphuli. He will be buried on Tuesday.
