Ranchi, April 24: The district administration and police today claimed to have left no stone unturned to ensure a peaceful and event-free bandh tomorrow.
The Jharkhand Janadhikar Party (JJP) called the bandh following a police lathicharge on a group of protesters on April 19. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, CPI-ML (Liberation) and a host of tribal organisations have extended support to the bandh.
According to sources, two companies of the Rapid Action Force, one of the women?s police force and three of the Central Reserve Police Force, besides Jharkhand Armed Police personnel and homeguards, will be deployed all around the city.
The district police, too, would be on their toes to prevent trouble.
Ranchi senior superintendent of police Anurag Gupta said, ?The security arrangements are perfect. We will not allow any untoward incident to take place. Patrolling will start from today itself. We have asked the police stations to be alert and ready for action.?
?We have identified a few sensitive areas like Itki Road, Karamtoli Chowk, Namkum, Kanke Road, Tupudana and Borea. These areas will see frequent patrolling all through the day. Besides, riot-control vehicles will also be on the move. We have directed the fire stations to be on high alert,? he added.
The sources said the police are keeping a close eye on the residences of tribal leaders who have supported the bandh. ?We will not tolerate any mischief,? they added.
?Officials at the police stations have been asked to arrest bandh supporters the moment they take to the streets. We will have a tactful approach but will not hesitate to act tough with the law-breakers,? said a police official.
Among the schools, which will remain closed tomorrow are DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali, Delhi Public School, Oxford Public School, Bishop Westcott Boys? School, Bishop Westcott Girls? School, Bishop School, Bahu Bazar, DAV Group of Schools, Cambrian Public School, G&H High School, Central Academy, Vivekananda Vidya Mandir, Guru Nanak School, St Anthony?s, Surendranath Centenary School, Lala Lajpat Rai and Loreto Convent.
On the other hand, the Army School will remain open. Classes will be held at Kendriya Vidyalaya schools if adequate number of students turn up, sources said.
Most markets and commercial establishments will remain closed.
Speaking on the possibility of violence, a JJP worker said, ?We are going to ensure a peaceful bandh. But a lot depends upon the administration and the police. They should not try to flex their muscles unnecessarily.?
