Tribute trip for graduates at XLRI

Jamshedpur, April 20: For some, it?s a moment to pay tribute to the city nurturing their dreams of success, while for others, it is time to interact with faculty members for the quality education via satellite.

Whatever it may be, it certainly is a nostalgic moment for them as the 152 working graduates of the satellite-based education of Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI) are brimming with joy to be back on the campus.

The college premises wore a festive look today though the students are on vacation. Students, pursuing the satellite programme, have added colour to the campus. They can be seen discussing issues over a cuppa, flipping through the books in library or getting a feel of the various addas in and around the campus.Students from over 30 cities including Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Baroda, Chandigarh, Chennai and Calcutta are on a week?s visit to the campus.

?I am happy to be back in the city after a decade. I am an ex-student of RIT, Adityapur (now National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur). I am happy to have tied knots with the city through XLRI?s satellite education,? said Shiva Vaid, owner of a consultancy firm in Bangalore.

Vaid, who is pursuing a post-graduate certificate programme in business management (PGCBM), said the satellite-based education gives ample opportunities to working graduates across the country for quality education of XLRI, while staying at their own places. The weeklong programme started from April 18.

?XLRI is a storehouse of wealth and knowledge. I think the course keeps abreast with the working executives with development being taken in the corporate sector,? said Adarsh Haryadi, an employee of Ocwen, a Bangalore-based BPO.

The B-school, at present, offers two professionally designed courses ? post-graduate certificate programme in business management (PGCBM) and post-graduate certificate in human resources management (PGCHRM) ? for 14 months each. The two new intensive programmes are designed specially for working executives and fresh graduates.

Under the system, the education is provided via satellite from studios at XLRI?s campus and at Gurgaon. The system incorporates live broadcast video, two-way audio and data interactivity to enable the students to interact with the faculty live. Students take education in various learning centres spread across the country.

?I had seen my faculty on the screen and now feel nostalgic. We have the opportunity to interact with them,? said Bhashyakar, another candidate.

Ram Kumar Kakani, co-ordinator of Satellite Education, XLRI, expressed happiness over the response and said this interaction will widen the horizon.
