Syllabus to groom future Anands
- Tata chess centre to train young learners

Jamshedpur, April 19: Want to be a grandmaster like Vishwanathan Anand? Practice throughout the day may not help you much.

Tata Chess Centre (TCC), which was established in the 80s, is all set to introduce syllabus on training for the young learners.

The content of the syllabus is at present being prepared. The syllabus is aimed at enhancing the performance of the students.

The sports department of Tata Steel supervises the functioning of TCC. Officials of the Tata Steel sports department said the idea to introduce a syllabus on training struck after a discussion with some of the parents whose wards are being trained at TCC.

Meeting with the parents, which was held about two months ago, helped incorporate improvements in the training syllabus. Sports department head Harbhajan Singh said the syllabus would give more edge to the whole concept of training.

?International Master (IM) Neeraj Kumar Mishra, who is also the secretary of East Singhbhum District Chess Association (ESDCA), along with some sports department officials, are framing the syllabus,? he added.

IM Mishra is one of the three coaches of TCC. Officials said: ?Most of the coaches come across problems while training the students. Sometimes, they get confused about the training methods. The syllabus would help in ironing out all these difficulties.?

Mishra, 37-year-old former employee of Tata Steel added that the syllabus would include openings, middle and end game, basic positions, supporting methods of the game and many other modules.

?Designing a complete syllabus would require a long time but we are already on the job and hoping to complete it as soon as possible,? said Mishra.

He added that the syllabus could also be used for future reference at the centre. ?Very few chess training centres across the country have a syllabus on training,? he said.

TCC, which at present has about 55 trainees, had introduced ?Operation Crown? two years back, aiming at producing chess champions.
