Jamshedpur, April 17: A three-member inspection team recommended the Bar Council of India (BCI) to grant affiliation to Jamshedpur Co-operative College for a three-year LLB degree course.
The recommendation was put forth at the executive committee meeting of the BCI in New Delhi today.
According to the BCI sources, the inspection team, in its recommendation, said the college has all the necessary infrastructure facilities, including requisite faculty members, to start the course.
Moreover, a request was made to the executive body to grant affiliation to the college to recommend the course from academic year 2005.
The executive body of BCI will take a final decision tomorrow. ?We are confident of getting a nod from BCI to resume the course. After getting the nod, we will start the law classes from June,? said A.K. Sinha, principal of Jamshedpur Co-operative College.
In 1999, the law studies at Jamshedpur Co-operative College was stopped after a directive from the BCI. Sources said that BCI?s directive was given as the college had violated guidelines.
As per the BCI norms, the law college should have separate infrastructure such as an administrative block, a library and separate faculty members for the course.
The Jamshedpur Co-operative College could not fulfil the guidelines and the affiliation was withdrawn in 1999.
