Tourism boost for Nagaland

Chedema (Kohima), April 14: The Centre is considering promoting tourism in a big way in Nagaland by introducing mountain airlines and reviewing the Restricted Area Permit.

Renuka Chowdhury, Union tourism minister, who is on a two-day tour to the state since yesterday, said this while inaugurating a tourist resort complex here today.

Chowdhury said her ministry had written to the Union home ministry for a review of the permit system, which was reviewed several years ago. ?We are waiting for their comment,? she said.

However, she said more than permit system, the need of the hour was ?peace within? to attract tourists.

She appealed to the people to show that Nagaland was peaceful.

On the effects of the Look East policy on tourism, Chowdhury said an open-sky policy was already in place and that Myanmar was issuing permits for travel into the country, she added.
