Storm havoc

Siliguri, April 10: Winds clocking 70 km an hour barrelled through vast swathes of the state, leaving at least four dead and a trail of destruction in its wake.

In north Bengal, property worth about a crore was lost in the storm accompanied by rain, said Mohini Das, the secretary of the Terai Indian Planters? Association, Matigara. A Nor?wester also lashed south Bengal. Bapi Ghosh, 24, died when he was struck by lightning at Memari in Burdwan, about 90 km from Calcutta, during the storm that also swept through Calcutta, Nadia, Birbhum, Bankura and West Midnapore.

Killer tanker

Calcutta: Three persons were killed when an oil tanker rammed into a stationary truck on Mumbai Road in Uluberia in Howrah district, about 20 km from Calcutta, on Sunday. None of the deceased could not be identified till late night.

Missing

Bolpur: Naren Dash, the reader in charge of Visva-Bharati?s Indo-Tibetan Institute, is reportedly missing. The university lodged a missing diary at the Bolpur police station after his wife Lalita said that he had not returned from office.
