Bokaro, April 8: With placards flashing the photographs of Muzaffar Hussain and Mashook Ali, who were butchered by five neighbours of Chandaha village, hundreds of people marched on Main Road in Chas today, demanding immediate arrest of the killers.
The villagers recovered toffee and chocolate wrappers from the place the bodies were found indicating that the kids might have been cajoled to accompany the killers, whom they probably knew.
The place from where the mutilated bodies were recovered was a secluded one and blood stains have been found at several spots indicating that the kids were taken to a safe place and their throats slit by sharp weapons before they could have resist or raise an alarm.
On the direction of superintendent of police of Bokaro Anil Palta, who is presently in New Delhi, the police launched a massive manhunt under supervision of Chas deputy superintendent of police Anuranjan Kispotta.
The police raided six places in Bokaro and its adjacent areas to arrest the alleged killers who are absconding. They have left their houses locked and even their family members are not present in their homes fearing bloody retaliation from the other villagers.
In an FIR lodged by the parents of the kids, the five accused have been named Lakhan Mahto, Rasraj Mahto, Jagdish Prasad Mahto, Deku Prasad and Kahnu.
Police sources said an immovable property dispute was continuing between the families of Sharif Ansari and Chand Ali, who are brothers and Lakhan Mahto and his brothers for the past 10 years. Cases over the dispute are still pending in various courts.
Both sides claim that the land belonged to them but the matter took an ugly turn in the past few months when both parties started verbal attacks outside the court also. Sources said Lakhan Mahto warned Sharif and Chand to vacate the land or face dire consequences a few days ago.
On April 5, the kids had promised their mothers that they will be back right after school and will go to to Chas to buy books and pencils, family sources said. ?But the kids never returned,? sobbed the bereaved mother of Muzaffar.
