Up for grabs: Jamshedpur Idol

Jamshedpur, April 8: Those who missed the chance to hit it big in the national talent contest, ?Indian Idol?, can try their luck again ? closer home ? in the ?Jamshedpur Idol? contest.

The contest in October on the lines of ?Indian Idol? will be a part of the silver jubilee celebrations of Kerala Samajam Model School (KSMS). The contest carries a prize money worth Rs 1 lakh.

The yearlong celebration will kick off from April 10 with a cultural evening and will conclude with the grand finale in December.

KSMS chairman A.P.R. Nair said the school, which was founded in 1980, has successfully completed 25 glorious years.

?The journey has not only been challenging but fruitful, too. We have achieved a lot in our endeavour to provide quality education to students but still have a long way to go,? he added.

The celebration will bring all stakeholders of the school on a common platform which will give rise to new ideas to achieve excellence in education.

The inaugural function of the celebration will be followed by a three-day career counselling function from April 14. New Delhi career counselling expert Usha Albuquerque will address students and conduct workshops to help them choose professions.

The inaugural function of the career counselling session will be held at XLRI auditorium, while the sessions will be held at KSMS auditorium.

A 12-member team of Kerala-based dance troupe Kalamandalam Sumathi will perform at the inaugural function of the silver jubilee celebration. The function will be inaugurated by Arun Narayan Singh, deputy managing director (corporate).

Quizmaster Siddharth Basu will conduct a quiz contest ?India: Land, Culture and People? in June.

October will see singer Usha Uthup perform in a musical show.

The KSMS chairman said the best part of the celebration is apart from students, parents, faculty members and general public will get an opportunity to participate in the function.

?A few non-conventional steps will also be feature in the jubilee year celebrations. In tune with our social commitment, we have also planned a few initiatives to serve the poorest of the poor,? Nair said.

He said a survey would be make in the tribal villages in East Singhbhum to identify 25 deserving tribal families and will be provided with hygienic brick-dwelling units with drinking water and sanitary toilet facilities.

The yearlong celebrations will end in a grand finale by KSMS students.

Principal Nandini Shukla expressed confidence over the success of the celebrations and the school will try to bring the best of talents among the students and felicitate them too.
