Reality check

If you have a stiff upper lip, you better stay away from Saswata Chatterjee. He's constantly throwing those one-liners around like other stars throw tantrums. And that helps to keep the spirits up on a horribly humid afternoon, when he was also sporting enough to come in a couple of hours earlier than his schedule to keep our request. 'Oh, nothing,' he waved it away, 'I was actually afraid that I might doze off after my bhaat, so I decided to brave the heat instead.' He even kept himself busy while waiting, balancing a football on his knee and playing with the Four Plus kids in the compound of the Channel 8 studio at Santoshpur.

Saswata plays a popular singer in Joy Mukharji's Jakhon Brishti Namlo (earlier titled, Bhalobashar Chhoan, but changed at our suggestion of its sounding too cliched) in the Som Theke Shoni slot. 'A singer who has a bad marriage, a good affair with a fan, and even a lovely love- child before the divorce comes through,' smiled story and script writer Lovely Mukherjee. This child grows up to become Sohini Sanyal, rising pretty fast and a keen learner as well. 'This time Joyda has made me an old man,' said Saswata, 'and God knows the kind of getups he always puts me into.' And then turned round to be introduced to his daughter, Sohini, whom he was meeting for the first time on the set! Reality TV'

Also in the cast are June Maliah, Debjani Chatterjee, Arijit Guha and Mala Bhattacharya.

Scheduled telecast: Aakaash Bangla; April 11-16; 9 pm
