Mother kills baby
Midnapore, April 2: A 25-year-old woman was arrested today for allegedly murdering her unwanted child. Geeta Rani of Saulabheri in East Midnapore, around 150 km from Calcutta, had given birth to a boy at home but the baby was found dead the next day.
The police conducted a post mortem, which revealed injury marks on the baby?s head. The mother is being interrogated at the Pataspuri police station, according to the officer in-charge, Atanu Santra.
Suicide
Calcutta: A woman suffering from depression committed suicide on Saturday in Salt Lake area of the city. Pratima Samanta (61), a resident of Salt Lake?s FD block , poured kerosene on herself and set herself on fire in the bathroom on Saturday morning. Pratima died on the spot, according to police.
Hospital row
Midnapore: Police on Saturday arrested Tapan Baur, the owner of a nursing home at Daspur in West Midnapore district, for allegedly running it illegally for the past 13 years. Matters came to a head when Arati Bera, a 43-year-old woman admitted to the nursing home on Friday morning, died that evening. Arati?s family members lodged a complaint accusing the nursing home?s authorities of negligence.

New Delhi (UNI): The Haryana Union of Journalists will provide free homoeopathic aid to all journalists in the state. The union?s president, Mr K.B. Pandit, said on Thursday that newsmen had made the arrangement with the Homoeopathic Education and Medical Society of Haryana.
