Civic strike over deaths

Patna, March 20: Employees of Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Patna Water Board (PWB) have decided to go on an indefinite strike following the death of two workers yesterday.

A garbage-filled tractor fell into a 15-ft ditch yesterday morning on New Bypass Road, killing the driver, Muhammad Aliraj, and cleaner Lalman Pandey on the spot. Another worker, Ramswarth Ram, sustained injuries and was undergoing treatment at Patna Medical College and Hospital.

Convener of the joint struggle committee of PMC and PWB, Chandrika Prasad Bhakt, held a meeting late last night and announced to launch the strike from midnight on Sunday. The strike will continue till the administration provides a compensation of Rs 5 lakh and a job each to the families of those killed.
