Yakubu fires winner

Margao: Churchill Brothers survived a second-half onslaught to defeat Salgaocar by a solitary goal in the National League here on Monday.

The all important goal was scored minutes before the interval when Yusif Yakubu fired home a fierce volley off a Marcos Pereira pass.

Salgaocar played an aggressive game in the second half but were denied victory by goalkeeper Marc Mascarenhas who saved two close range shots from Brazilian Fabio dos Passos who played his first match on Monday.

This was Churchill?s third win in the National League who now, with 13 points from 12 matches, are at the ninth spot while Salgaocar have 12 points from 12 matches.
