Left Front in ADC power fight

Agartala, March 13: Discontent is running high in the CPM-led Left Front in Tripura over the formation of the executive council for the new Autonomous District Council (ADC) despite having made a clean sweep of all the 28 seats in it.

Left Front partners CPI, RSP and Forward Bloc had won one seat each while the new electoral ally, the National Socialist Party of Tripura, won four seats. All the front constituents, including the NSPT, have sought representation in the new council.

However, the CPM leadership is unable to accommodate all the allies as the ADC Act stipulates that the executive council cannot have more than six members.

Yesterday, Left Front convener and CPM secretary Baidyanath Mazumder told the constituents that no representative from the Forward Bloc and the RSP would be accommodated in the new council.
