Teenagers Club win title

Jorhat cricket

Jorhat, March 9: A Jail Road Club batting line-up collapse helped Teenagers Club clinch the Jorhat District Sports Association (JDA) first division cricket championship title here today.

Teenagers Club clinched a 26-run win over the defending champions at the Jorhat stadium. Teenagers batted first and were all out for 153 in 29.1 overs in the 30-over-a-side final match.

In reply, Jail Road Club were bundled out for 127 in 28 overs. Suraj Mohan Konwar was the top scorer for Teenagers with 40 runs and another breezy 28 came from Arup Jyoti Dutta. Dutta?s 28-ball knock comprised a four and a sixer. Konwar and Arup Jyoti Dutta consolidated the innings that was tottering at 69 for six, by sharing a 40-run seventh wicket partnership. Partha Hazarika also contributed 14 runs to the Teenagers? scoreboard.

Manoj Sarma was the pick of the Jail Road bowlers, taking the scalp of four for 22, while Anupam Gogoi claimed three for 34 and Mitul Saikia took two for 17.

For Jail Road Club, Hridayananda Paswan and Anupam Gogoi gave a solid opening stand of 82 runs. However, the rest of the wickets fell like nine pins, scoring in single figures. Deep Jyoti Bora remained not out on 12.

Dayal Krishna Dutta got four wickets conceding 16 runs, while Arup Jyoti Dutta and Suraj Mohan Konwar shared two wickets each giving away 15 and 25 runs respectively.

Former Ranji cricketer Nagesh Singh, who was the chief guest on the occasion, gave away the trophies.
