Guwahati play Tezpur in final
Guwahati: Guwahati will meet Tezpur in the final of the Khirod Baruah Trophy 51st senior inter-district football championship in Golaghat on Friday. Guwahati blanked Dibrugarh 2-0 in a semi-final match on Wednesday. Arun Daimari and Munindra Sonowal scored the two goals for the winners.
Games bids
Guwahati: The purchase committee of the National Games Secretariat on Wednesday opened bids for 34 sports equipment for the 33rd Games here. The bids, mostly by foreign companies, comprise supply of synthetic surfaces for athletics and hockey, sound system for indoor stadiums and electronic scoreboards.
AOA meet
Guwahati: The Assam Olympic Association (AOA) executive committee will meet here on March 6. The meeting, to be presided by AOA president and chief minister Tarun Gogoi, has been convened to discuss issues related to the 33rd National Games. Prior to the meeting, the AOA will hold a meet of all state-level sports associations on March 5.
Inter-district
Guwahati: The 17th all-Assam inter-district karate meet, organised by the All-Style Karate-Do Association of Assam, will be held here from March 27 to 29. The state team for the 19th karate nationals, to be held in Chennai from April 24 to 30, will be named from among the players in the meet.
Silver jubilee
Guwahati: The Guwahati Youngster Football Coaching Centre has decided to hold its three-day-long silver jubilee programme at Nehru Stadium from October 10. The centre, established on October 10, 1979, will host a meet among teams from Mohun Bagan Football Academy, Tata Football Academy and a home side, secretary Hem Das said. The centre will invite India captain Bhaichung Bhutia as chief guest of the programme.
Corporate meet
Guwahati: The River Rine Club seven-a-side corporate cricket tournament, which was scheduled to commence on March 17, has been postponed. The meet will now begin on March 26 at the Latasil ground. Company and office teams should confirm their participation by March 10.
