Jamshedpur, Feb. 28: The authorities of the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College have found themselves in a difficult situation in the absence of a notification from the state health department regarding appointment of 72-doctors to fill-up the vacant posts in various clinical and non-clinical departments.
The MCI had threatened to de-affiliate the college if it failed to submit a compliance report on the appointment of doctors within February 25 ? a deadline the college has failed to meet. Sources said after consultation with senior officials of the state health and medical education department, the principal of the college, D.B. Sarangi, wrote a letter to the MCI secretary A.N. Satelvad yesterday, requesting him to grant them another one-week time. The principal hoped the notification would be made by then.
However, the college is yet to get a reply from the MCI.
Sources in the health and medical education department said the final list of doctors, to be appointed at the college, is ready. But, the matter is getting delayed as the health department has to make alternate arrangements at the primary health centres and government dispensaries from where these doctors will be transferred to the medical college.
Sarangi said: ?The college completed its job by sending the list of doctors to the health and medical education department. Now, it is up to the health department to notify the final list. I am hopeful the list would be notified by end of this week.?
