Trai notice to VSNL
New Delhi, Feb. 27: Telecom regulator Trai has served a show-cause notice to Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL) for violating licence conditions by selling international calling cards ? Tata Indicom outbound prepaid calling card ? saying VSNL cannot sell these cards directly to consumers. Trai has sought explanation from the Tatas-owned VSNL on various issues, including technical details on the routing of calls with diagrams and inter-carrier billing for such calls, caller-line identification as received by the called party, numbering plan and issues relating to the ADC settlement.
Gas deal
New Delhi, Feb. 27: India, Bangladesh and Myanmar will sign by the end of March a tripartite agreement for the laying of a $1-billion Myanmar-India gas pipeline, Union petroleum minister Mani Shankar Aiyar said today.
Telecom plan
New Delhi, Feb. 27: An ICICI Securities report on the merger of MTNL and VSNL has said the two companies have extremely divergent views on the proposed issue. The report will be submitted tomorrow.
