Guwahati, Feb. 24: AG Office, West Bengal (B), continued their victory run in the Indian Audit and Accounts Department (IA&AD) East Zone Table Tennis Championship with paddler Sourav Sengupta lifting the men?s singles trophy on the final day here today.
The Bengal (B) team annexed the team title yesterday, defeating Bihar 3-0.
Sengupta claimed the men?s singles title, beating Debadatta Mohanty of AG Orissa 4-2 . He won the marathon final 11-4, 11-8, 7-11, 15-17, 11-3, 17-15.
Pratim Sen, also from West Bengal (B), came back from behind to defeat A.K. Sinha of AG Orissa 5-11, 11-9, 11-8, 15-13 for the veteran?s crown.
However, Smita Choudhury of AG Orissa prevented West Bengal from making a clean sweep by lifting the women?s singles title. She beat Barnali Roy of West Bengal (A) 11-6, 6-11, 11-5, 11-8, 11-2 in the final today.
Choudhury yesterday beat Madhuri Bhadra of AG Office, West Bengal (B), 4-0 to book a final berth, while Roy blanked Assam opponent Ajanta Ahmed 4-0 in the other semi-final.
PR accountant-general (audit), Assam, Vashum Sword, was the chief guest and AG (A&E), Assam, Bhajan Singh, was the guest of honour at the prize distribution ceremony.
Semis line-up drawn
Holders Bhakra Byash Management Board (BBMB), Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) and Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) won their respective league matches today, completing the semi-final line-up in the ongoing Xth PSCB inter-CPSU cricket tournament here.
In tomorrow?s semi-finals, BBMB will play DVC at Oil India Limited Ground, while hosts Neepco will meet National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) at Nehru Stadium.
BBMB beat NHPC by four wickets at Nehru Stadium today, while DVC made short work of Central Electricity Authority (CEA) by winning with nine wickets. SJVN inflicted a two-wicket defeat on ministry of power at Oil India Limited Ground in Narengi.
