Widow loses sight over vote

Hazaribagh, Feb. 22: Fortyseven-year-old Mahangi Devi had lost an eye as she didn?t press the EVM button in favour of a candidate, as dictated, on February 3.

An FIR was lodged yesterday and two culprits were arrested and sent to jail today.

The incident took place in Saundadih of Bhurkunda, some 70 kms from district headquarters.

Earlier, Bhurkunda police failed to take up the case and forced Mahangi to leave the police station without lodging the FIR.

According to sources, supporters of Ramchandra Nayak asked Mahangi, a widow, to cast vote in his favour. Nayak was contesting from Barkagaon seat as Independent candidate.

But Mahangi ignored the instruction and pressed button for a CPI candidate. In the evening, when she told a group of people about her choice, they dragged her out and beat her mercilessly.
