Seeds take a tumble

Day I of the AITA grasscourt tennis meet produced major upsets as the third and eighth seeds were eliminated on Monday. Vinod Sewa shocked Tamil Nadu?s No. 3 seed V.M. Ranjeet 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 while Mohammed Yasser Arafat, seeded eighth, conceded the match to Punjab?s Gursharan Singh, with the latter leading 7-5, 2-0.

Satinder Singh?s 16-point show was not enough for Xaverians Club as they lost to Eastern Railway BC 49-69 in a state Division I basketball league match on Monday.

Mixed meet

Standard Chartered beat Airtel 19-15 in the 14th mercantile mixed basketball meet at Rangers Club on Monday.

Results: BSNL bt Greenways 45-20; Standard Chartered bt Airtel 19-15; TCS bt Hutch 39-17.
