Buddha woe over English

Calcutta, Feb. 19: Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today admitted again that the decision not to teach English at the primary level was a 'great blunder'.

'Aaj aamra boojhte parchi je prathamik theke Ingriji na shekhanota sudhu bhool noy mahabhool chilo (Today we realise our earlier decision to abolish English in primary classes was not only a mistake but a great blunder),' he said.

The chief minister was speaking at the inaugural function of the 175th year celebrations of the Oriental Seminary School in north Calcutta where many renowned persons, including Rabindranath Tagore had studied.
