- TENNIS RANKINGS

New Delhi: Sania Mirza has broken into the top 100 on the WTA rankings, latching on to the 99th spot, according to the latest list issued on Monday.

Going into the Hyderabad Open as a wild card ranked at No. 134, the Indian teenager has moved up 35 places and has 371 points to her credit.

The 18-year-old Sania, who had set herself a target of making it into the top-100 at the beginning of the year, had a sensational start to the season when she became the first Indian woman to reach the third round of a Grand Slam at the Australian Open.

American Lindsay Davenport meanwhile, remains in the top spot, with France?s Amelie Mauresmo jumping two places up to No. 2. Australian Open champion Serena Williams moved up one to No. 3

On the men?s side, Roger Federer kept his stranglehold on the ATP Tour Entry System rankings, while Russian Marat Safin still tops the Champions Race.

She continued her superb show in front for her home fans as she claimed the $140,000 Hyderabad Open upsetting ninth seed Alyona Bondarenko of Ukraine.

Indians also fared well in the junior boy's ranking list, released on Monday by the ITF, with three of them making it to the top-100 led by Jeevan Neduncheziyan in 34th place. Vivek Shokeen was placed 43rd while Sanam Singh was in the 89th spot. (AGENICES)
