Quack held for treating rebels
Jamshedpur: A quack was arrested from
Surakocha village under Arki police station on Sunday during
a joint raid by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)
and Khunti police. He was charged with treating injured
extremists.
According to police, Narayan Munda had provided medical aid to six rebels, who were injured during an encounter at Sikid village under Arki police station area on January 6.
Khunti subdivisional police officer Madhusudan Bari said during the Sikid encounter 10 extremists received gun shot injuries. Of them six were treated by Munda, while the others went to doctors and private clinics in Jamshedpur. He added that the police will conduct raids on the clinics and houses of some doctors in the steel city after the elections.
The police said Surakocha is near the native village of sub-zonal commander Kundan Pahan alias Vikasjee. ?We are interrogating Munda. We hope to get some relevant clues,? said Bari.
Elephant panic
Kandra: Residents of Hudu panchayat
in Seraikela pressed the panic button when an elephant strayed
into the village on Sunday evening. The elephant destroyed
four house, including one built under the Indira Awas Yojna
Scheme. However, no one was injured in the attack.
According to the villagers, the elephant entered the village around 7 pm aand started attacking the houses.. Though the elephant left the village within a couple of hours, the possibility of it returning, along with its herd, kept the villagers awake the entire night.
Donation
Chaibasa: Rotaract Club of Chaibasa
has donated a cheque worth Rs 5,000 to the Prime Minister?s
relief fund in aid of tsunami victims. Apart from the members
of the club, other commercial and social organisations also
chipped in with their contributions. According to president
of the club Vikas Dodrajka, the club plans to organise a
cultural programme to collect funds for the tsunami survivors.
Wires stolen
Ranchi: Copper wires worth Rs 2 lakh
were stolen from the Jharkhand State Electricity Board stores
in Dhanbad late on Saturday night. Area general manager
of Dhanbad Vikrama Ram said there is a possibility that
employees of the Jharkhand State Electricity Board are involved
in the act. ?Such incidents rarely take place without the
involvement of insiders. I will request a vigilance enquiry
by the board,? said Ram. He added that the guards posted
at the stores do not have the necessary equipment to handle
such crimes.
Election
Ranchi: BJP national general secretary
Anant Kumar said the party was confident of winning the
elections and forming the government. He added that a BJP
leader will become the next chief minister of the state.
Kumar further accused the United Progressive Alliance at
the Centre of formulating anti-people policies. He said
the previous National Democratic Alliance government was
working for the development, security and progress of the
country. ?The Congress is deceiving the people. So, the
NDA is the best option for the people,? he added.
Ambulance
Jamshedpur: The health department on
Sunday donated two Tata Sumos for use as ambulance and an
Ambassador car for administrative purpose to Mahatma Gandhi
Medical College and Hospital. The vehicles had been sanctioned
a few months ago, but were delivered on Sunday.
Award
Jamshedpur: B. Kumar, former head of
the mechanical engineering department and professor at AICTE
has been awarded the Sir Rajendra Nath Mookerjee memorial
prize. Kumar was felicitated at the annual conference of
the 19th Indian Engineering Congress in Mumbai. Kumar?s
?A statistical model for prediction of mixed mode crack
growth direction under uniaxial loading? was selected for
paper presentation in 2003-2004.
Complaint
Jamshedpur: Dhirendera Hansda a resident
of Ramnagar, Seraikela, filed a FIR reporting theft of his
motorcycle while he was watching a football match at Baghbera
ground on Sunday. Police are investigating the case.
The
International Maithili Parishad has urged people speaking
the language to vote for the BJP in the Assembly elections.
The Maithili community is pleased with the party as their
mother tongue was included in the Eighth schedule of the
Constitution.
