Giridih, Feb. 7: Mahendra Singh?s family has welcomed the decision to hand over the probe into the legislator?s killing to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
But they are unhappy that no action has been taken by the police against the accused. The family said IPC officer Deepak Verma and state minister Ravindra Rai were involved in the killing.
?I welcome the CBI inquiry and hope that truth behind the conspiracy of my father?s murder will come to light,? said Vinod Singh, the only son of the legislator. Vinod is contesting from Bagodar seat in place of his father.
Singh?s daughter Nitu Singh said, ?We want the CBI to complete its investigation within the timeframe.?
The residents of Khambrais are also happy with the move.
Rajiv Singh, a resident, said, ?Singh was our beloved leader and his place cannot be filled by anyone. But if the guilty are punished, our faith in the law will be restored.?
Three-time legislator from Bagodar, Mahendra Singh, was killed by three assailants at Durgi-Dhowaiya village on January 16 when he was talking to a physically-challenged person after a party meeting.
The police had declared the murder as an extremist act. But the slain legislator?s family alleged the involvement of the then district superintendent of police Deepak Verma and industry minister Ravindra Rai.
Singh widow, Shanti Devi, had tried filing a compliant at the Saria police station about the duo?s involvement, but the police refused to lodged one saying they have already lodged an FIR based on CPI(M-L) cadre Vijay Singh?s statement.
The state government had transferred SP Deepak Verma from Giridih .
The rebels, who had been blamed for Singh?s murder, denied any hand in the murder.
In a communiqu? issued in Giridih by the Jharkhand-Bihar frontier regional committee of the outfit, the Communist Party of India (Maoist) condemned the killing of CPI(M-L) legislator and made it clear that they were not involved in the murder.
Sources said the rebels have started a door-to-door hunt in Durgi-Dhowaiya to trace the legislator?s killers.
