Archery team for nationals
Jamshedpur: The state team for the Senior National Archery Championship was announced by the Jharkhand Archery Association on Monday. The tournament is slated to be held at Ernakulum in Cochin from February 11 to 15.
Announcing the team, association president T. Mukherjee said the women?s team is expected to make a clean sweep. But the boys will face tough competition against the Army, Indo-Tibetan Border police and Uttar Pradesh teams, he added.
He said the association is also preparing the women archers for the Compound Division. The Indian women?s team is participating in the nationals for the first time.
The women?s team includes, Dola Bannerjee, Reena Kumari, Bhegyabati Chanu, Laxmi Rani Majhi, Renu Swargiary, Naomi Laloo, Joshi Tiu, Anjali Kumari, Babita Bisoi, Asrita Kerketa, Chandrakala Munda and Renu Munda.
Rahul Bannerjee, Jayant Talukdar, Goutam Singh Sardar, Somai Murmu, Amardeep Robin Hansda, Naresh Laguri, Sanatan Soren, Kali Charan Besra, Gajendra Hembram, Prem Chandra Mardi and Kishun Murmu comprise the men?s squad.
The state team for the compound event, includes Sanjeeva Singh, Nirmal Kumar, Vivek Kumar, Haresh Kumar, Sakro Besra, Jhanu Hansda and Bansara Lin Dhar.
Laloo campaign
Bokaro: Laloo Prasad Yadav will campaign in the Saranda area for the Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) candidates and expose the misdeeds of the NDA government in Jharkhand.
RJD sources said the party chief will visit Chakradharpur and Manoharpur areas, which are Naxalite strongholds. Laloo Prasad Yadav will campaign in Chakradharpur between February 12 and 17.
AIDS awareness
Bokaro: An AIDS awareness campaign was launched in Kurra, Kashi jharia, Dabur Tupra and Jaitara panchayats of Chas subdivision by the state AIDS Control Council, Ranchi and the Consumer Society of Bokaro after reports on an increase in AIDS cases in the area. In the last week of December last year, AIDS detection camps were launched on the highway connecting Purulia and Dhanbad. Seventy-two cases of HIV infection were detected at the camps.
Rape complaint
GOELKERA: An FIR has been lodged at Goelkera police station on Monday against three youths charging them with raping a 30-year-old woman at Aarahasa village on January 28. The incident occurred when the victim was returning to her in-laws house at Kansuwa from her native village in Berakundru. Police have arrested two youths. The third one is absconding.
Murder
SERAIKELA: An FIR has been lodged against eight youths of Kuchai block who had allegedly murdered one Jiren Munda. The victim?s wife, Nandi Kui, who was an eye-witness to the murder, said Budhu Munda, Bhanga Munda, Sukram Munda, Sayna Munda, Resa Munda, Soya Munda, Lova Munda and Tunti Munda killed her husband when they were returning from Toklo haat. During interrogation, she revealed that the accused suspected her of being a witch. The police have launched a man-hunt to nab the youths.
Medical facilities
Chaibasa: District election officer and deputy commissioner A.P. Singh on Monday directed the district health wing to arrange for medical facilities for polling officials across the five reserved Assembly constituencies. Singh also ordered the district malaria chief to spray disinfectant in the cluster centres, which are spread out in 15 blocks. ?Primary health centres, referral hospitals and other district health outlets must be equipped to meet any mishap. Oxygen cylinders and tools for emergency operations must be made available in the hospitals,? added Singh.
Road mishap
HAZARIBAGH: A 35-year-old woman was crushed to death by a truck near St Columba?s College on Monday. Kalwa Devi was on her way to Hazaribagh town with her husband, when the accident took place. A case has been registered in the sadar police station.
Competitions between students and teachers will mark the five-day quality week at Kerala Samajam Model School that kicked-off on Monday. The final result of the students? quality circle competition will be declared on February 10. The Teachers? Quality Circle Competition will be held on February 12.
