Top seed Bhatt bows out

Jamshedpur: The Mohan Ahuja Stadium witnessed a flurry of upsets in the men?s and women?s singles quarter finals at the 69th senior national badminton championshipson Friday.

Top seed Arvind Bhatt of Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) bowed out, falling to seventh seed Thomas Kurien of Kerala 14-17, 15-12, 15-10, while former national champion Abhinn Shyam Gupta upset fourth seed Nikhil Kanetkar 8-15, 15-8, 15-9.

Eighth seed Jwala Gutta of PSPB shocked teammate and second seed B.R. Meenakshi 11-7, 13-10 in the women singles quarters, before former junior national champion Saina Nehwal of Andhra Pradesh put it across eleventh seed Shruti Kurien 11-13, 11-8, 11-8.

Top women?s seed Trupti Murgunde of PSPB posted a comfortable 13-11, 11-3 win over promising Krishna Deka Raja.
