Telecom raids
Calcutta, Feb. 4: A CBI team today seized cash and certificates worth Rs 93 lakh from Calcutta Telephones and West Bengal Telecom Circle officers? houses in and around the city.
Cash and documents worth Rs 85 lakh were recovered from the house of a general manager, while a junior official?s Naihati home yielded about Rs 8 lakh. An officer of the bureau?s anti-corruption wing said the manager authorised the clearance of fake bills showing procurement of cables. ?We are examining 22 officials, whom we suspect. We are confident of being in a position to make arrests very soon.?
The crackdown started last Wednesday with raids on the homes and work place of six officials.
