Growth figures revised

New Delhi, Jan. 31: The government today revised upwards the economic growth rate to 8.5 per cent for 2003-04 from 8.2 per cent estimated earlier, mainly due to a bumper agricultural growth of 9.6 per cent. The high GDP growth during the review period was reported after a growth of just 4 per cent in 2002-03, according to the quick estimates of national income released by the Central Statistical Organisation.

Revenue gap

New Delhi, Jan. 31: The government?s revenue deficit, seen as a key barometer of fiscal health, rose to Rs 62,969 crore or nearly 83 per cent of the budgeted amount in the first three quarters of this financial year. In the year-ago period, the revenue deficit was 65 per cent of the budgeted amount.

Exit scheme

New Delhi, Jan. 31: The government has decided to introduce a scheme to simplify the procedure for removing the names of defunct companies. It is called The Simplified Exit Scheme, 2005.

New Delhi, Jan. 31: The department of information technology (DIT) has constituted a high level committee, under the chairmanship of its secretary, to review the goals of the technology development for Indian languages programme and to suggest appropriate directions.

MTNL bonus

New Delhi, Jan. 31: The board of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam did not approve any bonus share at its meeting held on January 29, the company informed the BSE.
