Auto exports gallop

New Delhi, Jan. 23: Auto exports clocked a 32.7 per cent rise in the first nine months of this financial year at 4,53,591 units against 3,41,626 in the year-ago period. The growth was fuelled by passenger cars, motorcycles and commercial vehicles. Although passenger cars and motorcycles were significant contributors in terms of numbers, commercial vehicles segment registered the maximum growth. It reported a 75 per cent increase in exports at 19,931 units against 11,383 in the corresponding previous period, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers.

Gail plea

New Delhi, Jan. 23: Gail India has protested to the petroleum ministry against the demand made by British Gas, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation and Reliance Industries for a higher price of natural gas produced at Panna-Mukta and Tapti fields.

New Delhi, Jan. 23: Union defence minister Pranab Mukherjee is likely to head the group of ministers which will look into the umbrella legislation on special economic zones.

Fiat move

Milan, Jan. 23: The Fiat group can exercise a disputed option to sell 90 per cent of its fragile car-making subsidiary to General Motors from tomorrow, after months of unresolved wrangles and threats of legal action.
