Salary drive

Calcutta, Dec. 27: The CPM today said it will try to ensure that government employees get their salary by the first day of the month.

In an apparent bid to stem disgruntlement in its ranks, state party secretary Anil Biswas told the concluding session of the CPM?s Howrah unit, the government will try to pay the salaries of government by the first day ?despite its financial constraints?.

Mishap

Chinsurah: Three people were killed on Monday when a Trekker overturned while overtaking a minibus. The mishap occurred on the Serampore-Begumpur Road in Singur, 35 km from Calcutta.

NRI quota

Calcutta: A three-member team representing NRI-quota MBBS students ousted from SSKM Hospital and Midnapore Medical College met the chief minister and the health minister on Monday. Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee apparently told them the government would try to salvage their academic lives.
