Durgapur, Nov. 16: Seven India Reserve Battalion jawans were suspended today on charges of beating up residents of Bidhannagar Government Housing here and rioting during a soiree on Saturday night.

A truth team led by deputy inspectors-general of police K.C. Meena and T. Raju found the seven guilty after preliminary investigation.

?We suspended the jawans following instructions from higher authorities,? said the commanding officer of the battalion, P.T. Sherpa, who had clammed up after the incident.
