Rebel rally

Calcutta, Nov. 15: Naxalite factions with close links to the Communist Party Of India (Maoist), formed by the union of the People's War and the Maoist Communist Centre, will hold a rally in the city on December 15.

The rebels will protest against 'state-sponsored terrorism' in Bengal. Prominent leaders like P. Varavara Rao and singer Gadar are likely to address the rally in front of Sahid Minar.

Hospital woes

Krishnagar: Residents of Haringhata, 60 km from Calcutta, demonstrated in front of a rural maternity home on Monday against the absence of nurses and doctors. Shikha Saha, 25, gave birth on a verandah.

Bridge deaths

Midnapore: Two people were killed and one injured on their way back from a jatra on Monday morning when a 40-year-old brick bridge collapsed at Purba Kadua of East Midnapore. Subdivisional police officer Debashish Bej said about 40 villagers were returning together when the bridge, about 200 km from Calcutta, collapsed.
