The Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology,
Allahabad, formerly known as Motilal Nehru Regional Engineering College, is one
of the newly-created National Institutes of Technology (NIT). It was established
in the year 1961 as a joint enterprise of the Government of India and the government
of Uttar Pradesh. It is now among the leading NITs in the country.
The institute has an enriching cross-cultural environment
as students from various parts of the country, as well as countries such as Sri
Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Mauritius, Malaysia, Iran, Yemen, Iraq, Palestine
and Thailand, come to study here. It is a fully-residential college with six hostels
for boys and two for girls. One hostel is exclusively for postgraduate students.
The college began by offering bachelors degree programmes
in civil, electrical and mechanical engineering. After consolidating itself as
an engineering college of repute, the undergraduate programme in computer science
was started in the year 1976-77. Subsequently, in 1982-83, undergraduate programmes
in electronics engineering and production and industrial engineering were also
introduced.
Postgraduate courses were introduced in the year 1970-71
in all engineering departments. The college now offers 13 postgraduate degree
programmes along with MCA and PhD programmes. The college has been recognised
by the Government of India as one of the centres for the quality-improvement programme
in civil and mechanical engineering. To add a new dimension to its academic offering,
in 1996, the college started a two-year postgraduate degree in management studies.
Admission to the various programmes are made once
a year in July. Applications can either be made online on www.aieee.nic.in
or submitted on prescribed application forms only. Information bulletins containing
application forms can be obtained by post from the Joint Secretary (AIEEE), Central
Board of Secondary Education, 17, Rouse Avenue, Institutional Area, New Delhi
110002, or from the regional offices of CBSE and designated branches of Syndicate
Bank/designated institutions. The cost of the information bulletin inclusive of
the examination fee is Rs 300 for general category and Rs 150 for SC and ST candidates.

Eligibility: You should have passed your Plus
Two or equivalent examination with mathematics, physics and chemistry.
Entrance Exam
Admission to the MNNIT is through the All India Engineering
Entrance Examination (AIEEE) conducted by the CBSE in May at various centres.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) prepares a rank list based on
the total marks obtained in the entrance examination. The results are declared
in June.
Pattern of exam
The entrance test consists of multiple choice questions.
There are two papers. Paper one has questions on physics and chemistry containing
150 objective-type questions. Each question carries four marks. Paper two has
questions on mathematics containing 75 objective-type questions. You can opt for
question papers either in English or in Hindi.
How to prepare
Some of the books you can refer to are Mathematics
by M.C. Khanna and R.D. Sharma, Physics by H.C. Verma and .. Ghosh, Chemistry
by .P. Agarwal and Tata McGraw Hill publishers. You can also practise the objective-type
questions from the AIEEE guide available at major bookshops. Regular practise
of the questions will give you accuracy along with speed.

A wire of length L and radius r is tied rigidly at
one end and stretched by a force F acting at the other end. This increases the
length of the wire by l. Another wire of the same material with length 2L and
radius 2r will increase in length by stretching it by applying force 2F equal
to:
(a) l (b) 2l (c) l/2 (d) 4l
A charge of 3 coulomb moving in a uniform electric
