Bengal beat Assam

Propelled by Manoj Tewari's unbeaten 115, Bengal beat Assam by 54 runs in their Vinoo Mankad (under-19) match at Deshbandhu Park on Monday. Batting first, Bengal made 268 for four. Assam managed 214 for five in reply.

Brief scores: Bengal 268/4 (Manoj Tewari 115 n.o., Arindam Ghosh 45). Assam 214/5 (Mohammed Sadiq 88 n.o.). Bengal won by 54 runs.

Cricket camp

A ten-day cricket coaching camp started at the Srirampur Kalyan Samity ground, Garia, on Sunday. Former Test umpire Bhairab Ganguly was present on the opening day.

Sudip best

Sudip Rajbanshi student of L.B.M. School, emerged the champion in the national school chess meet for the visually handicapped, which concluded at Uttarpara, Hooghly, on Monday. He finished the four-day tournament with nine points, 1.5 ahead of D.F. Blind School's E. Dixit. Sheikh Saroj (L.B.M. School) and Jaydeb Sadhukhan (APC Blind School) were third and fourth, respectively.

IBP in semis

IBP and M.N. Dastur from group A while CESC A and J. Thomas from group B have made the semi-finals of the IBP Merchants Cup tennis tournament at the Calcutta South Club courts on Monday.
